What Is SEO?

What is SEO? SEO stands for search engine optimization. SEO is the practice of building a web site in a manner that allows it to be properly read and indexed by search engines in order to increase site traffic.

The search results that are returned and displayed using this ranking formula or algorithm are considered organic (or natural) search results. Searchers tend to visit websites that are at the top of this list because they are perceived to be more relevant to the query.

Important internal and external SEO aspects include:

  • keyword analysis
  • on-site optimization, including title tags and reviews
  • consistent site architecture
  • linking strategies and social media marketing

The search engines crawl, index, process, calculate relevancy and retrieve information. Remember that search engines are predominately text-driven. The search engine spiders or bots crawl the Web to see what is there to determine what a site is about.
